Dragoș Călin is one of the most active and beloved actors of the Baia Mare Municipal Theater, where he performs monthly in a variety of shows, covering a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary texts.

In over 9 years of activity on the theater stage, he has portrayed over 20 notable roles in productions such as:

  • Brindsley Miller in Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer,
  • Dr. Julien Desforges in Cactus Flower by Barillet & Grédy,
  • George Dandin in The Miser by Molière,
  • Elihu in Migrants!!! by Matei Vișniec,
  • Mattia Pascal in Suicidal based on Luigi Pirandello,
  • Multiple characters in contemporary theater productions (Stories from the Kitchen).

He was invited to film for the successful TV series “The Clan” (PRO TV) and directed the commercial “Ultra Residential”, which reached 25,000 views in just three days.

Originally from Botoșani and having lived in Maramureș for over 9 years, Dragoș Călin blends the classical theater tradition with contemporary forms of artistic expression.

Founder of the ARTSPOT cultural association, Dragoș Călin made theater accessible to the youth of Baia Mare through courses and theater troupes.

Through ARTSPOT and Aproape Academy:

  • coordinated over 1,000 students in artistic training,
  • developed 11 young theater productions through the The SnooP troupe,
  • reached an audience of over 20,000 spectators through the productions created.

The students participated in renowned festivals such as Ideo Ideis, I.D. Fest, Acting, and were invited twice to perform at the prestigious Sibiu International Theater Festival (FITS).

In 2022, Dragoș directed the film “Closed Hours”, the first independent cinematic project in Romania made exclusively with teenagers, which premiered at Cinema City Baia Mare and was included in the official season of the Baia Mare Municipal Theater.

In his directing career, Dragoș Călin has created projects with a major social and cultural impact.

He wrote and directed two anti-drug manifesto plays, “Van Dan – 10 ani de sânge murdar” and “Te iubesc, SMM!”, based on real stories and aimed at young people, parents, and educators.

Through the anti-drug campaign “Generația fără droguri”, he reached approximately 5,000 spectators, mostly students, from over 30 educational institutions in both rural and urban areas.
Additionally, within ARTSPOT, he directed the educational play “Cei 17 magnifici care au schimbat viitorul,” inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
